A young man named Rubel Ahmed died at Morton Hall Detention Center of UK. He was the son of Mr. Abdul Jalil, an emigrate from Shangirai village under Lamakazi Union of Biswanath Subdivision. Rubel breathed his last at midnight of last Friday. Last Saturday, other captives of Lincolnshire Suinderby protested against that issue. Meanwhile , the relatives of Rubel started to cry buckets as they came to know about the news of Rubel’s death.
Rubel’s cousin told that Rubel went to UK under Working Holiday Maker visa around 5 and a half years back.There he legally worked for two years. Afterward, with a view to stay there permanently, he asked for asylum through an advocate . He was arrested by the Law Enforcement Agency from a restaurant of Kent City of Britain at the last 22nd Ramadan. He became sick at the night of last Friday.The security guard locked him in a room from outside. At midnight, Rubel being fidget in pain kept slamming the door . People from nearby room called upon the authority and told to open the locked door. They opened the door at around 1 am. By that time Rubel became fainted . After he was taken to hospital, doctors declared him as dead.The captives became terrified and protested against it the last Saturday.
Strong anger and grief spread among the people of Bengali community as they came to know about this news.
Rubel’s family member also told that the news of Rubel’s death was informed to his advocate by other captives. Coming to know about this fact, he went to the concentration camp to ask about Rubel, but they refused to give any information about that incident.Afterwards, he arranged a press conference. Later on, the authority made sure about his death news of Rubel and it was said that the dead body of Rubel was kept in a hospital morgue, about hundreds of miles away from Morton Hall Detention Center.
According to British Home Ministry, the investigation of Rubel’ death incident has been started, which was published in different dailies of Bangladesh. The authority of the center have been revoked and riot jail officers are deployed.
Lamentation in village home: The local reporters found a heart braking seen at Rubal’s home as they came to know about the news of Rubel’s death. Rubel’s mother kept wailing and became fainted as she couldn’t bear the news of her son’s death. His brothers and sisters were crying their eyes out. Rubel’s mother said, “Last Tuesday, Rubel talked to her for only one minute. He said, “Mom , I’m fine . Take care of yourselves. I want to come back to my country. I can’t stay here any more. Pray for me . Police are coming, I’ll talk to you later.” and saying so he disconnected the call. I haven’t seen my apple of eyes for a long 6 years . I hoped that my son would come back after he grows up and I will see him to my heart’s content. but my dream remains a dream. O Allah… O Allah…” she keep saying and became fainted again. People of village created a crowed in Rubel’s house.
The time Rubel went to this dreamland: Rubel was an SSC examinee from Jangail High School of Sylhet Subdistrict in 2009 . His maternal grandfather’s house was in Dhanpur village. He studied staying there . When he was almost 17, he went to his dreamland UK through Working Holiday visa.There he stayed at his aunt’s house. He got a job in a restaurant of his relative.This job ensured his food and accommodation. His name was enlisted as an illegal resident of UK after the expire of his two years visa period. Later, with the help of an advocate he applied for asylum to be a permanent resident. He was in ‘sign’ after he was arrested in the last Ramadan.
Rubel’s dream remains unfulfilled: Rubel wished to come back to his country and get married after he gets his permanent citizenship. Rubel was the second of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. His elder sister is already married. His parents had dreams for him. Rubel send his earned money for his village home. With that money a plot has already been bought beside his house construction has already been started there. But before the construction could be completed, Rubel passed away and all their dream shattered.
Relatives waiting for dead body: Rubel went to his dreamland with a view to change his life . But now he is not coming back alive rather he will ome back being a dead body inside a coffin.His UK immigrant cousin, who came to Bangladesh have gone back to UK to bring coffin carrying Rubel’s dead body to his relatives.
